Judah ben Salomon Harizi (Twelfth–Thirteenth Century)
Harizi, Judah ben Salomon (ċhä-rē’zē), known also as Alcharisi. A Spanish Jewish poet; born in Xeres, about 1165?; died in 1235. A devoted student of Arabian poetry, he rendered the ‘Sittings’ or ‘Assemblies’ of the great poet Hariri into Hebrew; but his masterpiece is the exquisite ‘Tach-Kemoni,’ or picture of everyday Jewish life and character in his own time,—a poem in which an Arabian influence predominates.
