Moritz Hartmann (1821–1872)

Hartmann, Moritz (härt’män). An Austrian poet and agitator; born in Duschnik, Bohemia, Oct. 15, 1821; died in Vienna, May 13, 1872. He was a “poet of the people,” and participated in the movement of 1848. ‘Chalice and Sword’ (1845), and ‘Poetic Chronicle of Father Mauritius’ (1849) attained popularity.
