Herodotus (c. 484–425 B.C.)

Herodotus (he-rod’o-tus). “The Father of History”; born at Halicarnassus, in Caria, about 484 B.C.; died at Thurii, in Magna Græcia, 425 B.C. He wrote his ‘Exposition of History’ in nine books in the Ionic dialect, naming them after the nine Muses. (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
