David Jayne Hill (1850–1932)

Hill, David Jayne. An American educator, diplomat, and historian; born at Plainfield, NJ, June 10, 1850; died in 1932. He was president of Rochester University, NY (1888–1896); Ambassador to Germany (1908–11). He wrote biographies of ‘Washington Irving’ (1879) and ‘William Cullen Bryant’ (1879); ‘Principles and Fallacies of Socialism’ (1885); ‘A History of Diplomacy’ (1905–14); ‘The People’s Government’ (1915).
