James Abraham Hillhouse (1789–1841)

Hillhouse, James Abraham. An American dramatic poet; born at New Haven, CT, Sept. 26, 1789; died near there, Jan. 4, 1841. A merchant in New York, he retired from business in 1822. He wrote: ‘The Judgment, a Vision’ (1812); and the dramas ‘Percy’s Masque’ (1820) and ‘Hadad’ (1825). His ‘Dramas, Discourses, and other Pieces’ appeared in 1839.
