Laurence Hutton (1843–1904)

Hutton, Laurence. An American essayist and literary critic; born in New York, Aug. 8, 1843; died at Princeton, NJ, June 10, 1904. Devoting his earlier years to mercantile pursuits, he at length became dramatic critic of the New York Evening Mail. His publications are: ‘Plays and Players’; ‘Edwin Booth’; ‘Literary Landmarks’; and essays on London, Edinburgh, Jerusalem, Venice, Florence, and Rome.
