Joseph Jérôme Le Français de Lalande (1732–1807)

Lalande, Joseph Jérôme Le Français de (lä-läd’). A French astronomer; born at Bourg-en-Bresse, July 11, 1732; died at Paris, April 4, 1807. Among his voluminous works are: ‘A Treatise on Astronomy’ (1764); ‘French History of the Heavens’ (1801), in which are determined the places of 50,000 stars; ‘Astronomy for Ladies’ (1785).
