Pierre Sébastien Laurentie (1793–1876)

Laurentie, Pierre Sébastien (lō-ro-tē’). A French journalist and historian; born at Houga, Gers, Jan. 21, 1793; died at Paris, Feb. 9, 1876. His extreme royalist sentiments detract from the value of most of his works, among which are: ‘History of the Dukes of Orléans’ (4 vols., 1832–34); ‘History of France’ (8 vols., 1841–43); ‘Rome and the Pope’ (1860); ‘History of the Roman Empire’ (4 vols., 1861–62); ‘The Pope and the Czar’ (1862); and numerous brochures, etc.
