Christian Ludvig Edvard Lembcke (1815–1897)

Lembcke, Christian Ludvig Edvard (lemb’ke). A Danish poet; born at Copenhagen, June 15, 1815; died at Hadersler, March 20, 1897. He made translations of Shakespeare, Byron, Moore, and other English poets. Published in 1870 a volume of ‘Poems and Songs,’ in which he laments the defeat of Denmark, in the Schleswig-Holstein war; his ballad ‘Our Mother Tongue’ is one of the favorite national songs of Denmark.
