Anatole Leroy-Beaulieu (1842–1912)
Leroy-Beaulieu, Anatole (lė-rwä’ bō-lyė). A French historian; born at Lisieux, 1842; died in 1912. He became professor of modern history in the Free School of Political Sciences, 1881. His principal work, written after extensive travels in Russia, is ‘The Empire of the Tsars and the Russians’ (3 vols., 1881–89). Among his other writings are: ‘A Russian Statesman: Nikolas Milutin’ (1884); ‘France, Russia, and Europe’ (1888); ‘Revolution and Liberalism’ (1890); ‘The Papacy, Socialism, and Democracy.’
