Jean Antoine Letronne (1787–1848)

Letronne, Jean Antoine (le-trōn’). A French archæologist; born at Paris, Jan. 2, 1787; died there, Dec. 14, 1848. He is distinguished chiefly for his studies in numismatics and inscriptions. Among his writings are: ‘Topography of Syracuse’ (1813); ‘Fragments of Hero of Alexandria’ (1816); ‘Valuings of Greek and Roman Coins’ (1817); ‘Materials to Serve for a History of the Christian Religion’ (1833); ‘The Vocal Statue of Memnon’ (1833); ‘Collection of Greek and Latin Inscriptions from Egypt’ (1842–48).
