Caetano Lopes (1780–1860)

Lopes, Caetano (lō’pes). A Brazilian historian; born in Bahia, Oct. 1780; died in Paris, Dec. 22, 1860. He was a mulatto, educated in Bahia and Paris; he settled in the latter in 1822 and became corresponding member of the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-lettres. His works were numerous, treating of history, biography, and surgery.
