Gasparo Balbi (Sixteenth Century)

Balbi, Gasparo (bāl’bē). A Venetian merchant and writer of travels in the sixteenth century. He visited Aleppo, spent the years 1579–88 in India, and published ‘Journey in the East Indies’ (1590). It contained the first European description of India beyond the Ganges.
