James Mooney (1861–1921)

Mooney, James. An American ethnologist; born at Richmond, IN, Feb. 10, 1861; died in 1921. From a boy of twelve his specialty was Indian ethnology. He wrote: ‘Medical Mythology of Ireland’ (1887); ‘Funeral Customs of Ireland’ (1898); ‘Holiday Customs of Ireland’ (1890); ‘Myths of the Cherokees’; ‘Siouan Tribes of the East’; ‘The Messiah Religion and the Ghost-Dance.’
