Johann Lorenz von Mosheim (1694?–1755)

Mosheim, Johann Lorenz von (mōs’hīm). A German church historian and theologian; born at Lübeck, Oct. 9, 1694?; died at Göttingen, Sept. 9, 1755. His great work was his ‘Institutes of Ecclesiastical History’ (new ed. 1755). He published also other historical writings, and was a noted pulpit orator. His published sermons are contained in ‘Sacred Discourses’ (4th ed. 3 vols., Hamburg, 1765).
