William Motherwell (1797–1835)
Motherwell, William. A Scottish poet and antiquary; born at Glasgow, Oct. 13, 1797; died there, Nov. 1, 1835. He was a journalist and under-secretary of the sheriff of Paisley. His principal works were: ‘Minstrelsy, Ancient and Modern’ (1827), and ‘Poems, Narrative and Lyrical’ (1832). (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
