John O’Kane Murray (1847–1885)

Murray, John O’Kane. An American physician and historian; born in Glenariffe, County Antrim, Ireland, Dec. 12, 1847; died in Chicago, July 30, 1885. His most notable work was a ‘Popular History of the Catholic Church in the United States’ (1876). This was succeeded by ‘The Prose and Poetry of Ireland’ (1877); ‘The Catholic Heroes and Heroines of America’ (1878); ‘The Catholic Pioneers of America’ (1881); and ‘Lessons in English Literature’ (1883).
