Edgar Wilson (Bill) Nye (1850–1896)
Nye, Edgar Wilson. An American journalist, lecturer, and humorist; born at Shirley, ME, Aug. 25, 1850; died near Asheville, NC, Feb. 22, 1896. He settled in Wyoming Territory as a young man, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1876. Afterwards he removed to New York City, and became famous as a humorous lecturer and writer under the pseudonym of “Bill Nye.” Among his works are: ‘Bill Nye and the Boomerang’ (1881); ‘Forty Liars’ (1883); ‘Remarks’ (1886); ‘Fun, Wit, and Humor’ (1889), with J. W. Riley; ‘Comic History of the United States’ (1894); ‘Comic History of England’ (1896).
