Oliphant, Margaret Oliphant Wilson. A Scotch novelist; born at Wallyford, Scotland, April 4, 1828; died at Windsor, England, June 29, 1897. Her works include: ‘Zaidee’ (1856); ‘Chronicles of Carlingford’; ‘The Story of Valentine and his Brother’; ‘Sir Tom’; ‘In Trust’; ‘A House Divided against Itself’; ‘The Cuckoo in the Nest’; ‘English Literature at the End of the Eighteenth and Beginning of the Nineteenth Century’; ‘Victorian Age of English Literature’; ‘Makers of Florence, Venice, and Rome.’ (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
