José Joaquín de Olmedo (1780–1847)

Olmedo, José Joaquín de (ol-mā’dō). A South-American poet; born in Guayaquil in 1780; died there, Jan. 19, 1847. His verses have been highly praised. One of his best poems is a ‘Song to Bolivar’ (1826). His ‘Collected Works’ (Valparaiso, 1848; Paris, 1853; and Mexico, 1862) have been widely circulated.
