Phelps, William Lyon. An American educator, professor of English in Yale University; born at New Haven, CT, Jan. 2, 1865; died in 1943. He wrote: ‘The Beginnings of the English Romantic Movement’ (1893); ‘Essays on the Modern Novelists’ (1910); ‘Essays on Russian Novelists’ (1911); ‘Essays on Books’ (1914); ‘Browning’ (1915).
