John Bartlett (1820–1905)

Bartlett, John. An American publisher and compiler of books of reference; born at Plymouth, MA, June 14, 1820; died at Cambridge, Dec. 3, 1905. From 1878 he was a member of the publishing house of Little, Brown & Co., Boston. He compiled: ‘Familiar Quotations’ (1855); a ninth edition of which appeared in 1891; ‘The Shakespeare Phrase Book’ (1881); ‘A Shakespeare Concordance’ (1894); etc.
