Henry Codman Potter (1834–1908)
Potter, Henry Codman. An American clergyman and author, bishop of New York; born at Schenectady, NY, May 25, 1834; died at Cooperstown, NY, July 21, 1908. Educated in theology in Virginia, he became rector of Grace Church, New York City, in 1868; and was consecrated bishop of New York in 1887. His works include: ‘Gates of the East: A Winter in Egypt and Syria’ (1876); ‘Sermons of the City’ (1881); ‘Waymarks’ (1892); ‘Law and Loyalty’ (1903).
