Virgile Pucitelli (d. 1669)
Pucitelli, Virgile (pö-chē-tel’ē). An Italian poet, who died in Warsaw, 1669. He left his country to attach himself to the court of Wadislas IV., King of Poland, who made him his secretary, and sent him on various diplomatic missions. He received the title of Poet for the King, and composed for him several plays, among them: ‘Andromeda’ (1634); ‘St. Cecilia,’ a musical drama; ‘The Rape of Helen’ (1648); etc.
