William James Rolfe (1827–1910)

Rolfe, William James. An American editor; born in Newburyport, MA, Dec. 10, 1827; died on July 7, 1910. He published many editions of Shakespeare, annotated; among them ‘The Friendly Edition,’ in 20 vols. (1870–83), and a ‘School Edition,’ in 40 vols. He also published: ‘Shakespeare, the Boy’; annotated editions of selections from Tennyson, Scott, Browning, Wordsworth, Gray, Goldsmith, and other English poets; several classical textbooks; and ‘Tales from English History’; ‘Life of Shakespeare.’
