André Rollinat (1741–1793)

Rollinat, André (rō-lē-nä’). A French historian; born at Bordeaux in 1741; died at Nantes in 1793. He devoted himself to researches on the early navigators who have been credited with the discovery of America, and published ‘Researches on the Forerunners of Christopher Columbus in America’ (1785); ‘The Norwegian Sagas and the Scandinavian Navigators’ (1788); ‘Table of the Tithes Paid to the Treasury of St. Peter during the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Centuries by Vinland’ (1790); ‘History of the Norse Navigators’ (1791); and ‘Researches on the Discovery of Brazil by a Dieppe Navigator of the Fifteenth Century’ (1791).
