Mellin de Saint-Gelais (1491–1558)

Saint-Gelais, Mellin de (sa-zhe-lā’). A French lyric poet; born at Angoulême, Nov. 3, 1491; died at Paris, 1558. He affected the Italian forms of poetry such as the terza rima and was the first French poet to write sonnets.
