Charles Sprague Sargent (1841–1927)

Sargent, Charles Sprague. An American botanist and arboriculturist; born in Boston, April 24, 1841; died in 1927. He was director of the botanic garden and arboretum, and professor of arboriculture, at Harvard. He wrote many authoritative reports and books, among them: ‘Report on the Forests of North America’; ‘The Woods of the United States’; ‘Notes on the Forest Flora of Japan’; ‘The Silva of North America’; complete and authoritative work on the trees of North America; ‘Report on the Forests of North America’; and ‘Manual of the Trees of North America.’
