Louis Félicien Joseph Caignart de Saulcy (1807–1880)

Saulcy, Louis Félicien Joseph Caignart de (sō-sē’). A French numismatist and antiquarian; born in Lille, March 19, 1807; died in Paris, Nov. 3, 1880. He first obtained special attention as a numismatist by his ‘Essay on the Classification of Byzantine Coinage’ (1836). Among his works are: ‘Tour in the Holy Land’ (1865); ‘Last Days of Jerusalem’ (1866); ‘Story of Herod’ (1867); and ‘Seven Centuries of Jewish History’ (1874).
