Friedrich Karl von Savigny (1779–1861)

Savigny, Friedrich Karl von (sä-vēn-yē’). A distinguished jurist and historian of jurisprudence; born in Frankfort on the Main, Feb. 21, 1779; died in Berlin, Oct. 25, 1861. He stood long at the head of what is termed the historical school of jurisprudence. His principal works were: ‘The Legal Right of Property’ (1803); ‘The Present System of Roman Jurisprudence’ (1840–49); ‘Contract Law’; ‘History of the System of Roman Law in the Middle Ages’; etc.
