Lewis Foulk Thomas (1808–1868)

Thomas, Lewis Foulk. An American poet and dramatist; born in Baltimore, MD, 1808; died in Washington, 1868. He was author of ‘India and Other Poems’ (St. Louis, 1842), the first book of poetry published west of the Mississippi; and the tragedies ‘Osceola,’ successfully performed in Cincinnati (1838), and ‘Cortez’ (Washington, 1857).
