Virchow, Rudolf (fēr’ċhō). A distinguished German pathologist; born at Schievelbein, in Prussia, Oct. 13, 1821; died on Sept. 5, 1902. Among his numerous writings are: ‘Collected Essays on Scientific Medicine’ (1856); ‘Four Discourses on Life and Disease’ (1862); ‘On the Education of Woman for her Calling’ (1865); ‘On Certain Tokens of Lower Human Races in the Cranium’ (1875); ‘Freedom of Science in the Modern State.’
