Anne Bradstreet (c. 1612–1672)

Bradstreet, Mrs. Anne. An English poetess; born at Northampton about 1612; died at Andover, MA, Sept. 15, 1672. She was the daughter of Thomas Dudley, who became Governor of Massachusetts, and the wife of Rev. Simon Bradstreet, a non-conformist clergyman, with whom she came to New England, June 12, 1630. Her book of poems, ‘The Tenth Muse,’ was published in 1650. She was considered the most celebrated poet of her time in America.
