Ludwig Büchner (1824–1899)

Büchner, Ludwig (büċh’ner). A German scientist and author; born at Darmstadt, March 28, 1824; died there, May 1, 1899. His first publication, ‘Force and Matter’ (1885), aroused vehement opposition. His other writings include: ‘Nature and Spirit’; ‘From Nature and Science’; ‘Man and his Position in Nature’; ‘The Darwinian Theory of the Origin and Change of Living Matter’; ‘God and Science’; ‘The Power of Hereditary Transmission’; ‘Future Life and Modern Science;’ ‘Darwinism and Socialism.’
