Kemalledin Khogendi

Poems from Oriental Languages: Saying of Kemalledin Khogendi

(Persian—Fourteenth Century)

THE WORDS of the wise and unknown, quoth Zehir, are buds in a garden,

Which flower when summer is come, and are called for the harem by girls;

Or drops of water, saith Sa’di, which silently brighten and harden,

Till khalifs themselves exclaim, They blind me, those dazzling pearls!
