Carel Vosmaer (1826–1888)

Vosmaer, Carel (vos’mär). A Dutch journalist, novelist, artist, and writer on art; born at The Hague, March 20, 1826; died at Montreux, Switzerland, June 12, 1888. He is best known outside of his own country as the author of ‘The Amazon’ (1881), a novel. Other works are: ‘Studies on War and Art’ (1856); ‘Sketches’ (1860), verse; ‘Life of Rembrandt’ (1869); ‘Franz Hals’ (1874); ‘Our Contemporary Artists’ (1881), a translation of the Iliad and Odyssey.
