Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla (1607–1648)

Rojas Zorrilla, Francisco de (rō’Häs ē thō-rēl’yä). A Spanish dramatist; born in Toledo, Oct. 4, 1607; died in 1648. Twenty-four of his plays are now extant, which were published in two parts (1640 and 1645). The finest is ‘None Below the King,’ considered one of the classics among Spanish plays. Other notable ones are: ‘There is No Friend for a Friend’; ‘What Women Are’; ‘Persiles and Sigismunda,’ taken from Cervantes’s romance; ‘The Simpleton’s Sport’; and ‘The Insult Avenged.’
