Matthew Tindal (1653?–1733)

Tindal, Matthew. An English deist; born at Beer Ferris, Devonshire, in 1653?; died at Oxford, Aug. 16, 1733. In 1706 he published ‘The Rights of the Church Asserted,’ and later two ‘Defenses’; in 1710, ‘The New High Church Turned Old Presbyterian,’ which was ordered publicly burned by the House of Commons. In 1730 his most noted work, ‘Christianity as Old as the Creation,’ was published.
