Pieter Langendijk (1683–1756)

Langendijk, Pieter (läng’en-dīk). A Dutch poet and playwright; born at Haarlem, July 25, 1683; died in 1756. His comedies, which are the redeeming features of a barren period of Dutch literature, include: ‘Don Quixote’ (1711); ‘The Braggart’; ‘The Mutual Marriage Deception’; ‘Xantippe’; ‘Papirius’; ‘A Mirror of Our Merchants,’ the last three being comedies of manners.
