Robert Ker Porter (1777–1842)

Porter, Sir Robert Ker. An English traveler, brother of Jane and Anna Maria; born at Durham, 1777; died at St. Petersburg, May 4, 1842. He traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, and South America; and wrote: ‘Traveling Sketches in Russia and Sweden’ (1808); ‘Letters from Portugal and Spain’ (1809); ‘Narrative of the Late Campaign in Russia’ (1813); ‘Travels in Georgia, Persia, Armenia, Ancient Babylonia, etc., during the Years 1817–20’ (1821–22).
