Pi (π) bonds are the bonds in which shared unhybridized orbital’s (p, d, etc) electron density are concentrated in above and below of the plane of the molecule.

 

Analysing the structure of the given compound, it can be seen that there are 8 pi bonds in the compound and thus the total number of pi electrons are 16.

The pi electrons of the aromatic system must be available freely for the reaction to occur. In the given compound, out of 8 pi bonds, 7 bonds will participate in delocalization. Hence, number of pi electrons delocalized in the ring are 14.
