Valence electron in H-atom = 1

C-H and C-C bonds are formed by sharing of electrons. Thus, the bond between these atoms are said to be covalent bonds.

Hydrogen atom can only form sigma bond as it has only 1 electron in its valence shell, but Carbon has 4 electrons in its valence shell. Therefore, it has tendency to make sigma and pie bond as it can share more than one electron at a time.
