A car moving along a straight highway with speed of 136 km h-1 is brought to a stop within a distance of 250 m. What is the retardation of the car (assumed uniform), and how long does it take for the car to stop ?

Expert Answer

Step 1

Let the initial velocity of car be denoted as u and let the final velocity of car be denoted as v.

Let the acceleration of the car be denoted as a and let the time taken by it to stop be denoted by t.

Step 2

Use the third kinematic equation of motion to compute the retardation of the car.
