When the C – H bond present on one carbon aligned directly with the C - H bond present on the adjacent carbon then the resulting conformation is known as eclipsed conformation. Whereas in staggered conformation, the bisection of the H – C – H bond present on adjacent carbon by the C - H bond present on other carbon takes place. The staggered conformation in which two similar groups lie as far apart from each other with a dihedral angle of 180° is known as anti conformation whereas gauche conformation has a dihedral angle of 60°.
