According to this problem, in the first compartment of the container, 5000 electrons are present and in the second compartment of the container, 2500 protons are present.

 

Since the electrons and the protons recombine with one another, when the partition between the compartments is removed, 2500 protons will recombine with 2500 electrons and thereby reducing the number of electrons remaining to be equal to 2500.
