A rock is thrown vertically upward with a speed of 17.0 m/s from the roof of a building that is 70.0 m above the ground. Assume free fall. A) In how many seconds after being thrown does the rock strike the ground? B) What is the speed of the rock just before it strikes the ground?

Step 1

Given that the initial speed of the stone is 17.0m/s, and distance travelled by the stone is 70.0m.

Write the kinematic equation, and substitute -17.0m/s for u, and 70m for s in the below equation.

Step 2

Write the kinematic equation and substitute 17.0m/s for u...
