The depth of the well is given by

Here, t is the time for the stone to fall in to the well.

The time for the sound to travel back up the well is given by

t'=hv

Here,  t' is the time taken for the sound to travel back up the well.

The time taken for the sound to travel up the well is difference between

t' = 1.10 - t

Use t'=hv in the above equation.

hv=1.10-tgt22v=1.10-tgt22v+t-1.10=0

Substitute 9.8ms2 for g , and  337.6msfor v in the above equation for t .

9.8ms2t22337.6ms+t-1.10=00.0145t2+t-1.10=0

Solve the above quadratic equation.
