Agrobacterium is a genus of the bacteria which are composed of gram negative soil bacteria. The Agrobacterium causes plant diseases through horizontal gene transfer. The crown gall disease is caused by Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Gall formation takes place at the flesh wound site of the host plant from where the bacteria transfers its DNA to the host cell and itself gets incorporated in the genome of the host. This bacterial DNA insertion is responsible for the tumor formation in host plant.
