An Aircraft engine cylinder has a piston displacement of 45 cu. in and a clearance volume of 10 cu in. If the intake pressure is 14.7 PSIA what is the absolute pressure when the piston is at TDC? What is the compression ratio?

Given that ,

Piston displacement or swept volume (V_{s}) = 45 in^{3}

Clearance volume (V_{c}) = 10 in^{3}

Volume of the cylinder before compression V_{1} = V_{s} + V_{c} = 45 + 10 = 55 in^{3}

Volume of the cylinder after compression V_{2 }= V_{c} = 10 in^{3}

Pressure before compression = intake pressure (P_{1}) = 14.7 psia

Compression ratio is the ratio of volume before compression to volume after compression.
