There are three layers of the skin: epidermis, dermis and the subcutaneous tissue. The epidermis is the outer layer of the skin. It provides a waterproof barrier and creates our skin tone. The dermis is present benaeth the epidermis and contains tough connective tissue, hair follicles, and sweat glands. The deeper subcutaneous tisssue, also known as hypodermis, is made up of fat and connective tissue.
